NGO Association 'Human Rights Advocacy Center' aims to protect and encourage human rights and freedom in the Kyrgyz Republic. It was established in February 2005 at the initiative of non-governmental human rights organisations in the south of Kyrgyzstan.

The NGO was supported by the local office of the OSCE in the framework of the project 'Development of Human Rights Advovacy Center'. Members of the Advocacy Center are twenty-four non-governmental human rights organisations from Osh, Jalalabat, and Batken regions.

Activities

  • Promoting access to legal information and information in the field of advocacy for human rights defenders, lawyers and non-governmental organisations in the south of Kyrgyzstan.
  • Preventing ethnic discrimination
  • Monitoring of national legislation, and litigation and research.
  • Providing free legal assistance to citizens and protection in court.
  • Advocating strategy development to strengthen local communities by involving citizens in the process of defining their common problems and finding solution to these problems, as well as identifying people and structures that can provide these solutions.
  • Carrying out consultations for NGOs in the south region of Kyrgyzstan.

The organisation have been implementing the Strengthening of the Rule of Law Through Empowerment of Possibilities project funded by OSCE. The project is followed up through a small grants program. Human Rights Advocacy Center leads the program and help local NGOs implement their ideas in the south of Kyrgyzstan.

The project Strengthening Human Rights in Kyrgyzstan works to prevent and respond to ethnic discrimination, providing legal assistance and encouraging tolerance among society Kyrgyzstani society through public campaigns and service announcements to overcome ethnic divisions. The program is supported by USAID  and Freedom House.
