The Senegalese-Guinean Alliance for Peace and Integration (ASGPI) is an apolitical association which works for cross-border dialogue and progress between Guinea-Bissau and Senegal, based on respect for individual beliefs and independence from political and religious considerations. Its only ideology is that of peace.

The alliance includes borderland neighbouring villages. On the Senegalese side Kaguitte, Bougnack, Kassou and Youtou, and on the Guinea-Bissau side the village of Erame. The alliance's activities target the whole population of those villages. Due to its recognisable success the alliance seeks to embrace the whole Senegalese and Guinean villages of the borderlands to the Atlantic ocean.

ASGPI reflects the willingness of its member villages to devote themselves to a wider dynamic aiming at mobilising the solidarity of peoples who have in their history experienced the Casamance Conflict and the politico-military crisis in Guinea-Bissau.

The alliance aims to build and sustain peace and well-being in the common borderland through:

  • Promoting a culture of peace based on friendship and integration
  • Developing common socio-economic initiatives and implementing joint actions that strengthen and energise the liaisons of the villages involved.

Initiatives

ASGPI is promoting cross-border community-based activities though:

  • Improving access and communications through the construction of a rural cross border track connecting Youtou and Erame, and obtaining boats for public transport.
  • Improving collective infrastructures for rice production through the construction of dykes.
  • Promoting cross border trade on local products.
  • Peace education activities.
  • Yearly cross-border meetings focused on cultural and sports events and exchanges, les "retrouvailles internationales de la paix".

The alliance has mobilised partnerships in Senegal like Caritas Ziguinchor and the German cooperation BMZ and is currently seeking the support of agencies present in Guinea-Bissau.
