07 March 2017: Call for applicants: the Zimbabwe Peace Exchange aims to bring together a diverse group of civil society organisations from across Zimbabwe to share knowledge, experience and lessons, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Previous Peace Exchanges have seen successful collaboration in Pakistan, Nigeria and the Central African Republic, pictured, where Peace Direct held a Peace Exchange in 2015.

Applications are requested to attend a peacebuilding conference in Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Peace Exchange aims to bring together a diverse group of civil society organisations from across Zimbabwe, all of whom share a strong commitment to conflict resolution and peacebuilding, in order to share knowledge, experience and lessons, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

The Peace Exchange will be hosted by Peace Direct in collaboration with Envision Zimbabwe Women’s Trust. It will take place from 11 – 13 April 2017 in Harare (venue to be confirmed).

The purpose of the Zimbabwe Peace Exchange is to:

  • Enable local organisations in Zimbabwe to connect with one another, share information and strategies, and explore collaborations for better co-ordination to support peace in Zimbabwe.
  • Collaborate on a joint analysis of peace issues in Zimbabwe. The joint analysis will be published and promoted to key national and international stakeholders to demonstrate locally led priorities for peacebuilding in Zimbabwe. To support this, participating organisations will be asked to complete a short piece of research before attending.

We hope the Peace Exchange will facilitate the sharing of knowledge, while also providing a forum where local groups can discuss and identify the blockages they face in their work, the ways in which they can help each other, and how best the international community can support local peacebuilding efforts.

Local transport costs within Zimbabwe and food and accommodation will be included for all attendees where necessary. Per diems will not be paid.

If you are a local organisation from Zimbabwe interested in applying to attend this event, please complete the ‘Zimbabwe Peace Exchange_Expression of Interest’ form and return it to kevin.mccann@peacedirect.org.

Only organisations from Zimbabwe are eligible to apply. Female representatives are strongly encouraged to apply.

If you require further information on the event, or have any specific questions, please email
kevin.mccann@peacedirect.org.

The closing date for applications is 21 March 2017.

The Zimbabwe Peace Exchange is organised by Peace Direct in collaboration with Envision Zimbabwe Women’s Trust. Peace Direct and Envision have partnered on peace projects for a number of years.

Introducing Peace Direct

Peace Direct is a British charity based in London committed to supporting local peacebuilders around the world. It is founded on the belief that wherever there is conflict, there are local people building peace, and that there will be no lasting resolution of conflict unless they are in the lead.

We seek to identify effective local organisations and provide the funding and the promotion of their work that turns their potential into reality. Peace Direct has supported a variety of peacebuilding organisations around the world, including Envision Zimbabwe Women's Trust.

We also promote the work of our partner organisations, and that of 1500 other locally-led peacebuilding initiatives, through our website Insight on Conflict. The Zimbabwe section of Insight on Conflict contains information on many peacebuilding organisations in the country.
