Idara Baraye Taleem-o-Taraqi (IBT) works on peace and development programs with the marginalized linguistic communities in north Pakistan. The organisation was established in 2007, with the aim to promote integrated and inclusive development. It looks at ways to solve conflicts and bring peace, with an approach based on local indigenous wisdom and traditions.
In 2011, IBT held an Indigenous Culture Festival called “Simaam” (dignity), to look at how to solve tension between clans, tribes and communities. Thousands of people participated and celebrated their music, dances, games, culture, poetry and crafts for three consecutive days without any fear of violence. On the last day of the event, IBT hold a seminar on the theme “Militancy, Culture and Rehabilitation”, where academics, civil society and media presented their papers amidst intervals of music and dances.
