The Sandhi Institute was established in 2002 and works mainly in providing training and facilitation in non-violent communication in Sri Lanka. The institute works with individuals, universities, partner organisations and civil society groups throughout the island.

Sandhi Institute has been able to provide their service to thousands of people since they were formed in 2002. Their short introductory sessions they have reached more than a thousand and through intermediate trainings they have trained approximately 700. Via their ten-day residential trainings, the Sandhi Institute is able to equip all ethnic groups with a better understanding of other cultures. They see these in-depth courses as the best way to create connections between different ethnic groups in Sri Lanka.

Because of their access to international trainers and mediators, Sandhi Institute has identified that it is necessary to focus their training more on developing the skills of local mediators and nonviolent communication trainers. At the same time, the Institute has begun to work with civil society in order to help bridge the gap between the grassroots and elite of the society.
